What this website collects

Nothing that you type. randomforest.solutions is a single static page. Specifically, it has:

no contact form, sign-up form or newsletter;
no user accounts and no login;
no analytics, no visitor counter and no session recording;
no advertising, no remarketing pixels and no social media trackers;
no cookies set by us, and no use of local storage.

The only way to make contact is to email us, which you do from your own email client. Sections 3 to 5 cover what still gets processed as a consequence of you loading the page or writing to us.

Hosting, security and server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and served through Cloudflare's network. When your browser requests the page, Cloudflare processes your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, and technical information your browser sends such as the user-agent string and referring page.

Cloudflare uses this to deliver the page and to protect the site from attacks and automated abuse. As part of that protection it may set strictly necessary cookies on your device — typically a bot-management cookie. These are used for security, not for analytics or advertising, and under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations they do not require your consent.

We do not have access to a per-visitor log, and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors from this data.

Web fonts

The typefaces on this site are served from Google Fonts. When the page loads, your browser requests those font files directly from Google's servers, and Google receives your IP address and browser information as part of that request. This happens on every page of this site.

We use Google Fonts to render the page as designed, and we rely on our legitimate interest in presenting a working, legible website. If you would rather not make that request, a content blocker or a browser configured to block third-party requests will stop it; the site remains readable in a fallback typeface.

If you email us

When you write to us we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you choose to put in the message. We use it to answer you and, if the conversation goes somewhere, to discuss and deliver a project.

Please do not send us sensitive personal data, credentials, or confidential material belonging to someone else in a first email. If we go on to work together, we will agree a proper route for that.

Why we are allowed to process your data

Under Article 6 of the UK GDPR we rely on the following legal bases:

Legitimate interests — keeping the site available and secure, serving the page correctly, and replying to enquiries people choose to send us. We consider these uses to be ones you would reasonably expect and to have a minimal privacy impact.
Performance of a contract — where we are taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, or performing one we have agreed.
Legal obligation — where we have to keep records, for example for tax and accounting.

We do not rely on consent for anything on this website, because nothing here asks for it.

How long we keep information

Server and security logs — retained by our host for a short period under their own retention schedule, then deleted or aggregated.
Email correspondence — enquiries that do not lead to work are kept for up to two years, in case you come back to us, and then deleted.
Client records — kept for the duration of the engagement and then for six years after the end of the relevant financial year, to meet our statutory accounting and limitation-period obligations.

Where your information goes

Some of the providers above are based outside the United Kingdom, or operate global networks that may process data outside it. Where personal data is transferred out of the UK, we rely on the safeguards permitted by UK data protection law — an adequacy decision covering the destination country, or the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
have inaccurate data corrected;
ask us to delete data where there is no good reason for us to keep it;
ask us to restrict how we use it while a concern is resolved;
object to processing we carry out on the basis of legitimate interests;
ask us to transfer data you gave us to another provider, where that applies.

Email us to exercise any of these. We will respond within one month, and we will not charge you for a reasonable request. We may need to confirm who you are first.

If you think we have handled your personal data badly, please tell us first — we would rather fix it. You also have the right to complain to the UK supervisory authority:

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site works — adding a form or analytics, for instance — we will update this policy before the change goes live, and move the date and version at the top. There is no mailing list to notify, so the current version is always the one published here.
